Terms of Use
This page is maintained by the Humanwave team and describes the terms for using Humanwave. It reflects current practices and is not a legal certification.
What Humanwave is
Humanwave is a discovery service for independent, human-made music. It blends open music sources into a single catalogue, lets you play recordings in-app, and — with an account — save playlists, share them and suggest new tracks for our curators to review.
Listening without an account
You can browse and play music without signing in. An anonymous playlist is stored locally in your browser. We do not collect personal data for anonymous listening.
Your account
- You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure.
- You agree not to impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with an artist.
- You may delete your playlists or request account deletion at any time.
The music and its sources
Recordings are streamed from independent open music sources — Audius, the Internet Archive, ccMixter and Radio Browser. We surface and credit each source by name. The availability, licensing and terms of any given recording are set by its source and the artist who uploaded it; Humanwave does not claim ownership of any recording.
If you believe a track is mislabelled, miscategorised, or should not appear here, contact us and we will review it.
Sharing playlists
You may publish a playlist through a public share link. You are responsible for the content you choose to make public. Shared links can be unpublished by you at any time.
Suggestions and curation
Signed-in users may suggest tracks for the catalogue. Suggestions are reviewed by our curators against the verification criteria. Humanwave decides which suggestions enter the verified catalogue and is not obligated to publish every submission.
Acceptable use
- Do not attempt to disrupt or overload the service.
- Do not scrape or re-host the catalogue for resale.
- Do not submit content you do not have the right to suggest.
The service is provided as-is
Humanwave is provided on an "as available" basis. We work to keep the catalogue accurate, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access or that every recording will remain available, since that depends on the independent sources we draw from.
Changes
We may update these terms as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
We built Humanwave to point you toward music a person actually made. Use it in good faith and we'll keep doing the same.
